One point I just made in the comments thread over at my site in regards to this whole Aqua Teen hysteria is that while the panic was partially media-driven, keeping the media from freaking out is an important part of the government response to an emergency situation. That’s why one of the goals of the Department of Homeland Security’s TOPOFF-3 drill was “to practice strategic coordination of media relations and public information issues in response to linked terrorist incidents”. To see what this is supposed to look like, here’s a video of a fake newscast that was produced for the TOPOFF-3 drill that I uploaded to YouTube last year.
