The New York Times has a obituary for Steve Gilliard.
It’s only fitting that a consummate New Yorker like Steve should be remembered in the obituary pages of his home town paper. As much as I gripe about the Times, I have to commend them on their decision to devote coveted obit space to Steve’s memory.
They’ll probably get flack for this decision.
The Times displays more vision than the meanspirited hacks at Wikipedia who have been trying to get Steve’s entry deleted for alleged lack of “significance.”
Steve was a major player in the netroots movement and an influential social critic whose style and substance shaped an emerging genre of political commentary–the liberal political blog.
(The Times contacted me about using this photograph to accompany the obituary, but unfortunately there wasn’t enough room for a picture.)
