Irony, defined
According to a commenter over at HuffPo, this is Rush Limbaugh’s response to the domestic surveillance scandal: “If you’re doing nothing wrong why would you care?”
That would be the same Rush Limbaugh who’s spent the last two years fighting the release of his medical records to the prosecutors who are investigating his procurement of illegally obtained prescription drugs.

I’ve never been good with words, what’s the difference between Irony and hypocrisy?
January 30th, 2006 at 5:47 pm
Amazing - those levels of cognitive dissonance would make a lesser mortal’s head explode.
And by “lesser,” I mean “conscience-having.”
January 30th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Spencer nailed it on the head. What kind of fantasy world does Limbaugh and his Dittoheads live in?
January 30th, 2006 at 5:55 pm
Hypocrisy is too mild a word. We need to come up with something new.
January 30th, 2006 at 6:00 pm
That other word is “jerkoff.”
January 30th, 2006 at 6:07 pm
You don’t even mention the best part, which is that Limbaugh is using the ACLU to fight to keep those records private.
The hypocrisy of the big man knows no bounds.

“Chutzpah.”

He’s rights.
The only people who need to worry are criminals like Rush! Oh, and those with a healthy sense of boundries, of course.
January 30th, 2006 at 6:48 pm
I mean, “He’s right” of course. That’s what I get for typing fast.

Nice Hicks reference.
January 30th, 2006 at 8:28 pm
And lest we forget that Limbaugh and the entire Right Wing bitched and moaned during the Clinton administration about big, intrusive government. Weren’t these the guys who were kind of wink-wink, nudge-nudge in regards to Timothy McVeigh? I don’t know why bankrobbers don’t just slap a Bush-Cheney sticker on their get-away-cars; Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly (especially O’Reilly) would get these guys off, no problem.
And good Bill Hicks reference “anon”!

Chutzpah is murdering your parents then demanding the judge treat you leniently because you’re an orphan.
I believe it applies.
January 30th, 2006 at 8:54 pm
Trying to wrap my head around it gives me brain hemorrage.
January 30th, 2006 at 8:58 pm
…Actually, this is perfectly logically consistent, given that Rush HAS done something wrong.

Tush Limboob.
January 30th, 2006 at 9:34 pm
Flush Dimbulb’s definition of what is wrong is what people he doesn’t agree with do. Certain rights still need to be protected—namely, his! These people have no integrity, and as long as they can keep the finger pointed at others, they hope no one will notice what they do.
January 30th, 2006 at 9:44 pm
Rush is channeling Himmler and Goebbels. So what’s new?
January 30th, 2006 at 10:32 pm
Out of Hannity, O Reilly, and Limbaugh, Hannity wins the prize for the most extremely nauseating(I just thought I’d throw that in here). Even if he wasn’t even talking his regular political blather I’d find his personality so demonstratively irritating that I would want to barf. Please use Hannity to represent these people more often in TMW. He really gets me…. BLEAHHH!!

Disgusting fat pig american DJ figures out how to get rich by feeding other fat pig americans all the lies they want to hear instead of playing records. Does not matter how often you show him for what he is, it’s still a great big fat disgusting american sucess story.

Holy crap, comments at TMW! Rock the fuck on. Been hoping for this for a while.
Oh yeah, Limbaugh is a wanker. Film at 11.
January 31st, 2006 at 3:06 am
Limbaugh may be a wanker, but I’m a moron. I entered this site as my home website. This post is correcting the fact. Carry on.

Rush… Republican.. All-American Hero..
Quoting Stalin? Whenever people roll out the “if you’ve nothing to hide” line, it really helps if they remember who coined the phrase (and what he achieved through this rhetoric).

Every time someone like Limbaugh (or his legions) tries to belittle and marginalize concerns over the loss of Constitutional freedoms, just mention that we can always fuck with the 2nd ammendment the next time we have the majority. Then, just sit back and enjoy the backpeddaling.

Actually, it’s neither irony nor hypocracy. He’s saying only people who’ve done something wrong have anything to hide; he’d done something wrong ergo he had something to hide. QED.
What it IS, however, is counterproductive for someone who, like Rush, has, in fact, done something wrong and wants to continue hiding it, as Rush clearly does. He’s pissing on his own shoes, but there’s nothing ironic or hypocritical about that.

Let’s see, your mad at Bush for invading the privacy of those receiving calls from Al Qaeda, but fully support a prosecutor’s fishing expedition into a private medical record?
There’s your definition of hypocrisy, for those who asked.
January 31st, 2006 at 2:22 pm
Frank,it’s perfectly LEGAL for the prosecutor of a CRIMINAL case to subpoena evidence. Deriding it as a “fishing expedition” is just RushSpeak for “Jesus, if they get those records, I’m screwed!” Again, if Rush has nothing to hide, what’s he afraid of?
It has been demonstrated ad nauseum why Bush’s “terrorist surveillance program” (Bushspeak for “I can listen to anyone I want to whenever I want to, screw the law if it’s not convenient”) is ILLEGAL. Bush has practically said so himself. What will you do a few years down the road when the definition of “terrorist” is “anyone who disagrees with the government”, and you have some mean ol’ Democrat in the White House (GASP!!- HILLARY CLINTON!!!!). As the NRA is fond of saying, it’s a slippery slope.
Of course, arguments contrary to documented liar Rush mean nothing to those with their heads a quarter-mile up his asscheeks, they can’t hear anyway. Oh, and it’s “you’re”, not “your”.
January 31st, 2006 at 2:26 pm
Oh, almost forgot. Anyone want to bet that Frank’s reply will include some reference to Bill and Monica? Gotcha!
January 31st, 2006 at 6:52 pm
I’ll join this one. Flush Limburger is a big in politics. If they gave him an enema he’d be a midget.
Props to Stephen for mentioning the late Bill Hicks. Funniest damn comic in years. I hope they put more of his stuff out.
January 31st, 2006 at 7:57 pm
As a matter of fact, I oppose the laws that might put Rush in prison. But Rush, from what little I know of him, does not. He certainly hasn’t done much to help medical marijuana patients.
